FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 29, 2025 – WASHINGTON, DC - On April 24, the Michigan State Senate passed the Prescription Drug Cost and Affordability Review Act, also known as SBs 3, 4 and 5. These bills aim to decrease the cost of medicines throughout Michigan by establishing a Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB). While the package of bills has to be passed in the Michigan House now, this passing marks a significant step in lowering the cost of prescription drugs.
Justin Mendoza, Executive Director of UAEM, testified to the Michigan State Senate Committee on Finance, Insurance and Consumer Protection on April 23rd. He discussed the importance of the creation of the Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) in the state of Michigan and highlighted the billions of dollars funneled into the pharmaceutical industry. “The Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) will help to add at least some leverage to ensure that Michiganders can afford the medicines they need,” stated Mendoza. “The PDAB will create common sense rules of the road so that the patients can be protected, rather than just the interests of drug company shareholders and CEOs.”
Policies such as the Prescription Drug Cost and Affordability Review Act will ensure that more people across the state have better access to affordable medicines. UAEM is available for further comment and or clarification.
