WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Trump administration terminated the roles of advisory board members to the National Science Foundation, a body that is charged with managing approx. $9 billion in funding for early-stage inventions and research, mostly at academic institutions.

Upon hearing the news, Cassidy Parshall, Program Manager at UAEM North America issued the following statement:

“This is yet another sign that the administration is targeting the scientific community. The future of research, access to lifesaving medicines, and scientific advancement hang in the balance.

“If this is a signal that the administration intends to cut funding for National Science Foundation grants in the coming year, we should be deeply concerned about how we’ll treat cancer, infectious diseases, and chronic conditions for the next 30 years. New medicines are impossible without advancements in the science that make them possible in the first place.”
